| TIS THE SEASON TO NOT BE SOBER!
The scourge of this holiday season is the SOBER email worm. Sober hit with a vengance on November 22 and by the end of Wednesday, November 23 Postini said it had netted more than seven million copies of the bug. Of the 38 million viruses caught on December 1 by Postini, 36 million were Sober! The virus claims to come from the FBI or CIA and travels in an e-mail message with the subject line of "You visit illegal websites" or "Your IP was logged". The virus also comes in varieties that purport to hold a video of Paris Hilton, fake password change notices and e-mail error messages.
According to Postini statistics, 10 of every 16 email messages is spam, and 1 in 4 is virus-infected. Postini stops these messages before they reach the HALNet mail server. HALNet subscribers can get a 30-day free trial of the Postini mail filtering progam by visiting the Postini filter login page and inputting the HALNet email address and password. Your account will automatically be activated. That's all there is to it! If you spent Thanksgiving deleting spam and viruses, DON'T SPEND CHRISTMAS DOING THE SAME THING!

DECEMBER VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
December is the month of "Giving". We give gifts to our families and friends, even those we have not seen all year. HAL-PC would like to give the gift of appreciation to our volunteers who give all year long. Many hours of hard work and dedication go into operating the organization on a daily basis and it could not succeed without the faithful dilligence of our regular volunteers. We are extremely proud to call December 2005 The Month of Volunteers. We are thankful for the gifts you give HAL-PC every day of the year.
