PROTECT YOUR PC

**********

BEWARE PHONY DISASTER RELIEF APPEALS
Natural disasters can bring out the best in us. Well-meaning people seek to give generously to those affected by tragedies such as Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, many of these people will be taken in by unscrupulous spammers and phony charities. Ignore and delete email messages soliciting donations to benefit hurricane victims!! If you want to make a donation, do so through an established charity such as the American Red Cross or Salvation Army. You can find links to both of these charities on the Hurricane Katrina information page on the HAL-PC website.

HURRICANE KATRINA DISASTER RELIEF

HAL-PC has posted a Hurricane Katrina disaster relief information page on the HAL website. On it you will find links to several charitable agencies as well as current disaster relief information. Please visit Volunteer Houston for the latest in volunteer opportunity information.

BULLETIN FROM VOLUNTEER HOUSTON (10:20 a.m. 9/4/05):
Individuals with wireless laptop computers are wanted at Reliant Center ASAP.
They are needed to help in the process of locating missing people.
They will register on the second floor at the volunteer registration station.
They will then be sent to another room to get set up.

BULLETIN FROM CITY OF HOUSTON SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT (9/1/05):
The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) in conjunction with the City Wide Club will be sponsoring a Food and Clothing Drive to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. By placing canned goods, non-perishable food items, clothes and toiletries in a grocery bag at the curb on the resident's SWMD garbage collection day the week of September 6-9, 2005*, Houstonians will help contribute to these devastated families. The Curbside Food and Clothing Drive is for Houston residents who are serviced directly by the City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department

SEPTEMBER VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

HAL-PC is an organization of volunteers. Not only are there people who give of their time and expertise with tech support and organizing SIGs, there are those who volunteer behinds the scenes in areas such as clerical support and assisting with event planning. We would like to particularly thank our volunteer, Anne Schumacher, member since 1997. Anne lends her skills and expertise weekly to HAL-PC as a clerical volunteer. For this, we are honored to recognize her as our September Volunteer of the Month.
