Outlook 2002-2003
"Authentication Required" or "Relaying Denied" Error Message
If you occasionally get an error that mentions, "Relaying" or 'Relaying Denied" or "Authentication Required" (or have a HALNet email address but are using another Internet provider), you may need to set the SMTP Authentication.
- Open Outlook 2002/2003, go to; Tools, E-mail Accounts. Click "View or change existing e-mail accounts" then click NEXT.
- Click on your HAL-PC/HALNet account then click Change. You will see your account information displayed.
- Click the "More Settings" button, then click the "Outgoing Server" tab. Put a check in the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" box. Make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is dotted. See Figure 1.
- Click OK, then click Next, then click Finish. Once done, close down your Outlook.
Do not check the 3rd radio button "Log on to
incoming mail server before sending mail" it will fail - you must check the first or second radio button to get
this to work, not the 3rd.
